Deflection Bead Case Study: Johns Hopkins University

Baltimore, MD

In continuing efforts to revive the Charles Village area, Johns Hopkins University chose Armada Hoffler and Beatty Development to build a 12-story, mixed-use retail, restaurants, and student housing alternative site. This modern assembly of 31,500 square feet of common area accompanying 157 student apartments highlights the neighborhood's renaissance and the university's strong connection to the Baltimore.

Armada Hoffler and Beatty Development chose Wall Mounted Deflection Bead to prevent cracking on inside corners as the building moves. A flexible gasket on the deflection bead protects walls and ceilings for up to 7/16" of compression or expansion while maintaining a crisp edge.

Electing for an easy installation with a sleek contemporary edge in every shower surround, Armada Hoffler and Beatty Development installed Shower Bead. With no need for tape, Shower Bead eliminates one of the major sources for mold. These two beads in combination will maintain a clean appearance on every wall as each apartment, restaurant, and retailer bustles with a new and vibrant community.
